FIVE players from the Basingstoke Bison junior teams helped South West Conference teams to a hat-trick of success at the annual Conference tournament held in Hull.

Elliott Dewey, Danny Ingoldsby and Hallam Wilson were part of the winning under-17s, while Max Florey played for the victorious under-15s and Travis Penny captain-ed the triumphant under-11s.

Basingstoke-based brothers Nicky and Ryan Watt coached the winning under-15 and under-17 sides.

Each age group involved five teams – South East, South West, North, Midlands and Scotland – and started with a round-robin competition, with the top two teams making the final.

In the under-17s competition, the South West won their opening three games, which included a 5-0 success over the North, which saw Ingoldsby score twice and Dewey once.

In a tense final, the South West beat local rivals South East 3-2 thanks to an overtime winner.

The under-15s opened their group games with a 2-1 loss against the North, but then won their next three games to earn a re-match with the North, where they gained revenge with a 3-2 win.

The under-11s also lost their opening game against the North, but won the next three games to book a place in the final, where they met the Midlands.

After overtime failed to split the teams, the South West won after a penalty shoot-out.

Before their trip to Hull, the South West Conference under-17 side, which included Dewey, Ingoldsby and Wilson, won a tournament in Leuven, Belgium.

The side faced teams from France, Luxemburg, the Netherlands and Belgium.

They navigated their way through the round robin stage, winning their first game 5-0 against the home team and then beat Strasbourg 2-1.

This was followed by victories over Lyon (5-1), Geleen (9-1) and Luxembourg team Huskies (5-0).

Being unbeaten in the round robin stage, the South West went straight into the final, where they faced Strasbourg – beating them 2-0 in a tense match.

The Bison Ladies lost their final game of the season 3-0 against visiting Bracknell Firebees.
