BASINGSTOKE RFC produced a battling performance in their final pre-season game as they lost 34-0 to visiting Tunbridge Wells.

The game at Down Grange was the team's final outing before their London South West Two campaign begins at Weybridge Vandals on Saturday.

Like all pre-season games, results count for nothing, it is the performance which is more important.

The victory for Tunbridge maintained their 100 per cent pre-season record as they beat East Grinstead a fortnight ago.

In a tight opening to the game, the visitor’s fly half Oliver Allman kicked a penalty for a 3-0 lead.

Both sides then had chances, before the Kent side added three tries in the final two minutes of the first half, thanks to Alex Maynard, Tom George and Sam Newton, the first two being converted by Allman.

The London Two South East visitors made it 29-0, just a couple of minutes after the re-start as Allman went over for a try, which Hayden Pope converted.

Then six minutes from time, Allman completed the scoring with an unconverted try
