BASINGSTOKE RFC suffered another London One South home defeat this time at the hands of visiting Brighton 62-5.

The home side were on the back foot from early on in the contest thanks to Nick Cherry’s score, after good work from Maxx Morris and Alex Finch converted.

The visitors added a second score after 16 minutes, as Ade Bredin picked up a loose ball and went over in the corner to make it 12-0.

Brighton extended their lead further as from line-out, a driving maul saw them score thanks to captain Luke Edwards and Finch kicked over the extras.

The visitors scored their bonus point try after 26 minutes, as Bredin scored again under the posts and Finch kicked the conversion.

The home side then opened their account after several phrases and Lawrence Elliot scored.

The conversion from Elliot unfortunately went wide of the posts.

Brighton added a penalty from Finch and another try from captain Edwards made it 36-5 at the turn around.

The home side put up a good account of themselves after the break, with number of great phrases and they so nearly added to their five points, but were held up at the try line.

It took the visitors to just after the hour mark to add to their tally, as Cherry scored his second try of the game which was converted by Finch.

The home side continued to push, but a loose ball was picked up by Bredin and he released Finch. He broke a couple of tackles as he ran the length of the pitch to score, which he converted.

Two minutes later, Finch scored again and then Cherry fed Morris for the final Brighton try of the game. Finch kicked over the conversion to take his points tally to 27 for the game.

The loss did nothing to ease ’Stoke’s London One South relegation worries and this was also not helped by the fact that basement rivals Dover beat Gosport and Fareham 31-8.

This means the Down Grange side are now seven points away from safety.
