BASINGSTOKE RFC suffered their biggest defeat of the season as they lost 104-0 to their visiting Hampshire arch rivals Havant.

In a game where you could not fault the effort and commitment from the home side, they were just unable to contain their more experienced visitors who ran in 16 tries in total to make it a miserable afternoon for the home fans.

Despite the scoreline ’Stoke started the better and dominated the first five minutes as they drove up field and had a couple of line-outs from the five metre line.

However, the visitors managed to clear the ball and winger James Wilkes scored the opening try after eight minutes and Jake Reynolds kicked over his first of 12 conversions during the match.

The visitors took just four minutes to score again as an excellent run from Reynolds was ended by Rilwan Lawal, but the ball was played along the line to Dave Sweeney to score.

A rolling scrum from the five metre line saw Joe Davis peel off and put the ball down by the posts and then Brian Brierley added the bonus point try by the 25th minute of the game.

The writing was already looked on the wall for the home side, who battled on, but their cause was no helped when Sean McDermott was yellow carded for a high tackle.

The visitors made the most of the man advantage as Jack Ward-Golden went in under the posts to make it 31-0.

Havant looked set to score again soon after, but Harrison Young managed to chuck the ball away as he went over the try line.

As the half came to a close Basingstoke had the best attack since the opening minutes as Lawal broke a couple of tackles, but was stopped at the five metre line.

Havant then forced a turnover and kicked the ball into touch to end the half leading 31-0.

After the break, the visitors added 11 more tries the first coming from George Sutton and then Jake Reynolds added another within the first 10 minutes of the re-start.

A lovely passing move saw Grant Morris score and then James Read managed to spin out of a couple of tackles to make it 57-0 by the hour mark.

The visitors were now able to throw the ball around with ease and even when they were passing blind the ball was going to hand.

The tries kept coming as Sutton, Niall Copeland, Read and Zach Saliba took the score to 85-0 with nine minutes left.

However, the visitors had not finished and Pete Living. Jarrad Hayler and Davis completed the rout as Havant hit three figures.

’Stoke have a week off now before their next game in London One South being away at Twickenham on Saturday March 21.
