BASINGSTOKE RFC are very much the underdogs this weekend as they travel to London One South title chasers Sidcup.

The Kent side are unbeaten in their last four games. They recorded a very impressive victory at Sutton and Epsom last weekend, a result that moved them up to third in the table.

In contrast, ’Stoke have lost their last four outings, with their latest defeat being at home to Brighton.

When these sides met earlier in the season at Down Grange, Sidcup dominated for long periods, but only won 25-10.

Chairman of senior playing Steve Parker will be in charge of the team for the trip to Kent and said: “We know this is going to be a tough game, but we have nothing to lose.

“I cannot fault the commitment of the players. They keep on going for 80 minutes and we will go there and hope to get something out of the game to help our relegation cause.”

He added: “I felt against Brighton we had some good periods of play. We are a young team with a lot of new faces and I am sure we will get better with each game we play.

“I was pleased with the performances of Will Jenkins and Chris Charles, who both made their debuts for the first team last week.”

Parker is forced to make one change to the line-up which played Brighton.

Work commitments rule out Glenn Magee, but Rob Durham should be back in the squad.

Club captain Freddie Gleadowe has joined Bournemouth and this means Guy Wilkinson is the new skipper.

Talking about the appointment Parker said: “Guy is a very experienced player and is playing well at moment. He will lead by example and will be a leader for us on the field.”
