BASINGSTOKE RFC’s defence of their Hampshire Cup was ended at Havant as they lost their semi-final tie 62-13.

Last season, extra time was needed to split these sides in the final of the competition, but this time around it was a lot more one sided.

The home side cruised to victory as they led 33-6 at the break and went on to add another 29 points after the interval.

Havant will now travel to the winners of other semi-final which is between Gosport and Fareham or Portsmouth.

The final of the competition at the moment is set to be played at the end of April.

The games are coming thick and fast for Basingstoke who now return their focus to their London One South relegation fight.

Their next game is on Saturday when they entertain visiting mid-table side Brighton (kick-off 3pm).

’Stoke are currently 13th in the table three points behind the two sides above them Dover and Twickenham and they will have to overhaul both of them to avoid the drop.
