BASINGSTOKE RFC’s losing streak continued as they lost 47-15 at Charlton Park in London One South.

For the home side it was their third consecutive 40 points home haul and they opened the scoring thanks to a penalty from fly half Thor Normann.

The visitors reply was swift as captain Freddie Gleadowe scored a try which was not converted.

’Stoke then extended their lead to seven points, as Sam Turner went over with a push over try following a line-out and maul.

However, that was a good as it got for the visitors as the home side replied with another Normann penalty and on the 33 minute mark they took the lead thanks to a Paul Haig try.

Charlton Park extended their lead in what was a physical contest to 18-10 by half-time, as Steve Laverie scored and Normann converted.

After the break, injuries took their toll on Basingstoke as front row players Jon Bird and Turner were forced out for the game to leave them down to 14 men and uncontesting the scrums for most of the second-half.

The home side took advantage as Normann scored a try which he converted and the fly-half also kicked a penalty to increase the lead to 28-10 just after the hour.

Charlton Park then added three more tries, thanks to Ben Pritchard and Mark Harlow-Singh, which took the score to 47-10.

It was left to the visitors to wrap up the scoring with nice try, as the ball was played out wide for Ryan Travaskis to score and once again it was not converted.

The loss means Basingstoke are still in the bottom three and next week they face a visit from Hove, who are directly below them in the table.

The Sussex side lost at home to Sutton and Epsom 39-18 this weekend and have only one win to their name so far this season.
