OWEN Richardson ended his successful indoor season by reaching the finals of the senior British Athletics Indoor Championships at Sheffield after being invited by British Athletics to run in the 400 metres.
He cruised through his heat and qualified for the final in the semis held the same day. The finals on Sunday saw a fiercely contested last 100 metres and Richardson finished a commendable fifth, with a time of 48.40 seconds, with Nigel Levine winning in 48.0s.
This was a huge achievement for such a young athlete against the UK’s top senior sprinters. Richardson will now start training for the outdoor season commencing in April.
