JAMES Beeks claimed victory in the latest edition of Basingstoke Parkrun.

Beeks completed the 5km course around War Memorial Park in 17min 02sec, beating second-placed David Stanley (Basingstoke and Mid Hants) by 61 seconds.

Dylan Bardell was third in 18:47, exactly a minute ahead of the fastest woman, Claire Spencer.

Parkrun is a free, timed 5km race that takes place in War Memorial Park at 9am every Saturday.

This week’s event will be followed by a session aimed at encouraging visually impaired people to give running a try.

The session will take place between 10am and 11am, with trained guides available to answer questions and take visually impaired runners around part of the Parkrun course.

Any sighted people who would like to experience running while blindfolded are also welcome to attend the session, which is being run with the help of Parkrun and England Athletics.
