BASINGSTOKE and Mid Hants athletes were in top form at the Hampshire County Championships.

Members of the Down Grange club returned home from the championships, which were held in Portsmouth, with a total of 42 medals, 17 of them gold, claiming three championship record times in the process.

Mair Edwards was one of the stand-out performers, doing the sprint double in the under-17 women category.

A time of 12.06sec won her gold in the 100m and she repeated the trick in the 200m, clocking a championship record time of 24.30sec.

The Clere School pupil Holly Mills also won two events, racing to victory in the under-17 women’s 80m hurdles and leaping a championship record distance of 6.11m in the long jump. Other championship records went to Andy Blow, who clocked 14.34sec on his way to a third consecutive victory in the senior men’s 110m hurdles, and under-13 Isabel Pinder, who cleared 1.54m in the high jump.

Gemma Finch claimed three gold medals, winning the under-20 100m hurdles, high jump and long jump.

The other Basingstoke gold medalists were Myles Rich-ardson, Owen Richardson, Sam Sleap, Rebecca Sleap, Ben Pattison, Cameron Newton, Dave Ragan, Joe Flitcroft, Dan Spencer and Freya Davis.
