BASINGSTOKE and Mid Hants athlete Dave Meacock, was the 51st runner home out of more than 38,000 competitors at the London Marathon, clocking an impressive time of 2hr 29min 53sec.

Alex Hamilton was the second Basingstoke runner home in 2:38:01, with Chris Burghes (2:55:57), Graham Hall (2:58:44) and Chris Furness (2:59:11) also breaking the three-hour barrier.

Russell Burton, Mark Slaney, Sam Williams, Charlotte Earl and Trev Perrett all went under three-and-a-half hours, with Tom Steckiw, Angela Goodwin, Gemma Bigg and John Bigg not far behind them. Alison Lewis also completed the race.
