BASINGSTOKE and Mid Hants AC runner Jermaine Mays finished eighth in the opening Hampshire Cross Country League meeting of the season at Farley Mount, Winchester.
At under-20 level, Brendan O’Connor was third in the men’s race, and in the women’s race Freya Davis was seventh, Lucy Wildash ninth and Charlotte Chalwin 10th, earning Basingstoke and Mid Hants second place in the team standings.
In the veterans’ races, Alex Hamilton was second in the men’s race, with Angela Goodwin eighth in the women’s event.
Overton Harriers were also well represented in the veterans’ races. Sean Holmes was sixth and Lee Tolhurst eighth in the men’s race, with Cath Wheeler seventh in the women’s event.
Basingstoke runner Maddie Deadman impressed in the junior categories, finishing third in the under-15 race.
