JAMES Beeks won the blue ribbon event at Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletic Club’s annual championships, the Dream Mile.
The youngster stopped the clock at 4min 41.44sec to beat second-placed Alex Hamilton by 10 seconds, with decathlete Ben Hazell a further nine seconds back in third.
At junior level, the championships were held over three events, with points awarded for performances in each.
Under-nines and under-11s competed in the 75m, 600m and long jump, with older athletes allowed to choose three, as long as they included at least one track and one field event.
On the girls’ side, Jessie Hill was the under-nine winner, while Isabell Pinder won all three events in the under-11 competition.
The other champions were Catherine Edwards (under-13), Mair Edwards (under-15), Hannah Weaver (under-17) and Gemma Finch (under-20).
The boys’ events were won by Lochran Rowan (under-nine), William Parkinson (under-11), Ben Pattison (under-13), Malachi Gair (under-15), Ali Johnson (under-17) and Luca Chiossone (under-20).
