EXCELLENT performances from the Richardson brothers helped Basingstoke and Mid Hants AC win their second match of the season in Southern Athletics League Division One.

The team travelled to Abingdon, in Oxfordshire, for the match and returned home as winners after amassing 217 points – 17 more than second-placed Southampton.

Owen Richardson, who is just 15, continued his excellent start to life as a 400m runner by winning the A string race in a personal best time of 48.57sec, a performance that leaves him the top ranked under-17 athlete at that distance nationally.

There was more good news for older brother Myles, who moved up to number 10 in the under-20 UK rankings for 200m by winning the B string race in 21.87sec.

Kieran Showler-Davis also had a good afternoon, winning both the 100m and 200m, while Devon Brimecombe produced personal bests to win the 200m and long jump, also claiming victory in the B high jump.

Other A string winners were Andy Blow (110m hurdles), Luca Chiossone (800m), Rebecca Sleap (2,000m steeplechase), Gemma Finch (high jump), Sam Sleap (pole vault), Tobin Hatton-Brown (javelin), Joe Flitcroft (hammer) and the men’s 4x100m and women’s 4x400m relay teams.

Ben Hazell won the B string 110m hurdles and pole vault, Linda van der Wel triumphed in the B 2,000m steeplechase and 3,000m, while John Dickinson won the B shot and discus.

Emma Hope (400m) and Rebecca Sleap (1,500m) were Basingstoke’s other B string winners.
