THE 24th Tadley Runners cross country race attracted 215 entries.

The men’s race, over a new course on the Wasing Estate, was won by Gareth Watkins (Royal Engineers AC) in a time of 26 minutes 54 seconds.

Overton Harrier James Knight (27.37) was second and Winchester’s Matthew King (28:15) was third.

Avon Valley Runners’ Steve Newcastle (30:37) won the Vets 40 race and Basingstoke and Mid Hants athlete Andrew Waddington (31.00) took the vet 50 crown. White Horse Harriers’ Tim Hughes (30.30) was the vet 60 winner.

The women’s race saw Basingstoke athletes finish first and second as Angela Goodwin (34:35) won from Rebecca Jakeman (36.21). Ranelagh Harriers’ Amelie Hunton (37.06) was third.

The vets women’s races saw Claire Raynor (38.37) take the vet 35 title, Anne Leggett (38.25) won the vet 45 crown and Lorraine Kirby (42.01) came first in the vet 55 race.

The team event was won by Basingstoke thanks to Alex Hamilton, Waddington and Goodwin.
