HOOK distance runner Charlotte Purdue is hoping to continue her comeback from injury by securing a place in the UK team for the European Cross Country Championships.

The 22-year-old will travel to Sefton Park, in Liverpool, on Saturday, to compete in the Liverpool Cross Challenge. The event is also being used as trials for the European championships, which will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, next month.

If selected, the championships would be Purdue's final chance to compete in the under-23 age-group, as she becomes a senior athlete on January 1.

However, there is no separate under-23 race at the trials, meaning Purdue must compete alongside the senior women over 8.1 kilometres to earn her place on the team.

The Hook runner made her comeback following a series of stress fractures last month, finishing third at the Great South Run in Portsmouth.
