Basingstoke and Mid Hants athletes claimed top-10 places at match two of the Hampshire Cross Country League at Goodwood last weekend.

Jermaine Mays was fifth in the senior men’s race, three places ahead of clubmate Dave Ragan, while Overton Harriers enjoyed a good day in the veterans’ event.

Sean Holmes was fourth, one place lower than he achieved at match one in Reading, while Lee Holhurst managed to improve by a place, finishing sixth after coming seventh at match one. Neil Martin was ninth, one place lower than he managed at Reading.

Basingstoke’s James Beeks was ninth in the under-15 race, matching his finish at match one.

Match one also saw Ollie Butler finish sixth in the under-17 race and Joe Gasson come 10th in the under-13 event, while there was also a good deal of north Hampshire success on the ladies’ side.

Overton Harrier Cath Wheeler was fourth in the veteran ladies’ race, with Basingstoke’s Angela Goodwin 10th. Jenny Helyar was ninth in the under-20 race, while there was further success for Basingstoke and Mid Hants runners further down the age-groups.

Freya Davis was the fourth under-17 home, with Gemma Wildash 10th in the same race, while Rebecca Poole was fifth in the under-13 event, which also saw Rebecca Bullock come home 10th.
