LIVE - Weston super Mare v Basingstoke Town

This live event has finished

4:54pm

FULL-TIME - Weston super Mare 5 Basingstoke Town 2

The game was lost in the first 20 minutes, with some of the worst defending you are likely to see. Don't let the two goals at the end fool you, this was a battering.

See The Monday Gazette for a full report and reaction to the game.

4:54pm

That's another chance for Delano Sam-Yorke but his angled drive is well off target, with Stefan Brown screaming for a pass.

4:49pm

GOAL - Weston super Mare 5 Basingstoke Town 2 (Sam-Yorke 88)

A corner from the left gives Delano Sam-Yorke the chance to nod home at the far post.

There will be three added minutes for Town to find the three goals they need for a draw.

4:48pm

YELLOW CARD - Weston super Mare - Matt Villis

That's a dangerous lunging challenge on Delano Sam-Yorke. He could have seen red for that.

4:44pm

GOAL - Weston super Mare 5 Basingstoke Town 1 (Brown 84)

The visiting fans finally have something to cheer as Delano Sam-Yorke does well down the left before pulling the ball back for Stefan Brown to slot home clinically.

Seconds earlier, Ross Stearn had cut in on his right foot and hit a shot straight at Ashley Bayes.

4:42pm

A great pass from Wes Daly to find Stefan Brown - but the midfielder then finds the car park with his shot when the ball is pulled back to him.

4:39pm

SUBSTITUTION - Basingstoke Town - Jordace Holder-Spooner on for Tim Sills

4:37pm

GOAL - Weston super Mare 5 (Stearn (pen) 77) Basingstoke Town 0

A long ball over the top is missed by Nathan Smart, who is then skinned by Ross Stearn before tripping the winger in the area.

Stearn gets up to send Ashley Bayes the wrong way from the penalty spot.

4:36pm

PENALTY TO WESTON

4:35pm

SUBSTITUTION - Basingstoke Town - Simon Dunn on for Nathan Campbell

4:33pm

YELLOW CARD - Basingstoke Town - Tim Sills

Sills is booked for a late challenge on home 'keeper Lloyd Irish.

4:32pm

A low free-kick into the Town area is flicked towards goal by Kayne McClaggan and Ashley Bayes is relieved to see it go wide.

4:31pm

SUBSTITUTION - Weston super Mare - Dayle Grubb on for Chas Hemmings

4:28pm

Delano Sam-Yorke has a half-chance for the visitors - but it's too close to Lloyd Irish in the Weston goal.

4:26pm

SUBSTITUTION - Basingstoke Town - Stefan Brown on for Callum McNish

Town switch to 4-3-3 in search of an unlikely comeback.

4:25pm

That could have been another goal for the hosts after the Town defence are pulled apart once more, but the move ends with Ross Stearn's curling going straight at Ashley Bayes.

4:24pm

4:23pm

SUBSTITUTION - Weston super Mare - Kayne McClaggon on for Kane Ingram

4:19pm

SUBSTITUTION - Weston super Mare - Manny Parry on for Ashley Kington

Parry, who is on loan from Stoke, only arrived at the ground at half-time after going to the Camrose by mistake - but he is thrown on to make his debut.

4:17pm

YELLOW CARD - Weston super Mare - Brett Trowbridge

The midfielder catches Delano Sam-Yorke with a lunging challenge and is shown a yellow card.

4:17pm

Callum McNish hits a decent effort from distance but it's straight at Lloyd Irish.

4:14pm

GOAL - Weston super Mare 4 (Kington 54) Basingstoke Town 0

Town have been on top for the opening 10 minutes of the half but it's the hosts who make the breakthrough. Again Town's defending leaves a little to be desired as the ball pings around in the area before dropping for Ashley Kington to fire in.

4:12pm

That's a big shout for a Town penalty as Callum McNish seems to be fouled in the act of getting a shot away. The effort bobbles wide but the referee awards a goal-kick.

4:07pm

That's a fantastic effort from Delano Sam-Yorke, whose volley from 25 yards has Lloyd Irish beaten but just doesn't dip in time to find the net.

4:06pm

Town restart the game. This could be almost a training exercise because, as a contest, it's already over.

3:50pm

HALF-TIME - Weston super Mare 3 Basingstoke Town 0

A dreadful first 20 minutes mean its probably game over. Town have been better since the third goal - but only because the hosts have sat back.

If Jason Bristow has a hairdryer, I'd suggest he's using it now.

3:44pm

Town really should have pulled a goal back there, Delano Sam-Yorke unable to force the ball home after a corner and Tim Sills' knockdown caused problems.

3:43pm

Weston seem to have taken their foot off the gas, allowing Town back into the game.

They have not created any real chances though, with Wes Daly and Robert Rice firing efforts badly wide, though Tim Sills almost had a chance when Lloyd Irish in the home goal spilled Shaun McAuley's centre.

3:29pm

3:23pm

GOAL - Weston super Mare 3 (Ingram 21) Basingstoke Town 0

This is appalling. Town had survived a big scare moments earlier, Chas Hemmings nodding wide after Kane Ingram had been given acres of space inside the area to pick him out.

The next attack sees a clearance charged down on the edge of the area, leaving Ingram in behind. Ashley Bayes again does well to save - but the midfielder smashes home the rebound.

3:19pm

GOAL - Weston super Mare 2 (Hemmings 17) Basingstoke Town 0

This could be a long afternoon as some more woeful defending gifts Weston a second goal.

There's no pressure on the ball in midfield, allowing a pass to be slipped through to Ross Stearn, who beats a poor offside trap to get behind Nathan Smart. He makes ground to the byline before crossing for big striker Chas Hemmings to nod home unopposed.

3:19pm

That's the visitors best move yet and it results in Shaun McAuley rising to head narrowly wide at the near post. They're struggling to get a foothold.

3:18pm

Town are at sixes and sevens defensively and arguing amongst themselves after being cut to ribbons by another Weston move. Douglas Berquist does well to cut out the chance but it's far from convincing.

3:11pm

GOAL - Weston super Mare 1 (Diallo 8) Basingstoke Town 0

If the formation shift was aimed at curing Town's defensive deficiancies, it hasn't worked.

Weston midfielder Naby Diallo evades Callum McNish in midfield before playing in Chas Hemmings. Ashley Bayes does well to block his angled effort but the striker collects the rebound and squares for Diallo to fire home.

3:09pm

It's been a somewhat scrappy opening, with both sides working hard but unable to put together any concerted pressure.

3:04pm

Weston get the game under way. It looks like 4-4-2 for Town, with Robert Rice at left-back and a midfield diamond, with Nathan Campbell at the base and Shaun McAuley the point.

2:52pm

Team news - Town boss Jason Bristow has made a number of changes to the side that lost to Havant last week.

In come Nathan Smart, Shaun McAuley and Douglas Berquist, an on-loan centre-back from Aldershot, with Jordace Holder-Spooner, Chris Paterson and Matt Warner, who is unavailable today, missing out.

The formation is unclear. I'll let you know when the game kicks off.

Weston: Lloyd, Slocombe, Monks, Trowbridge, Villis, Diallo, Stearn, Kirk, Hemmings, Ingram, Kington. Subs: Parry, Pepperell, Grubb, Young, McClaggon.

Town: Bayes, Smart, Rice, Berquist, Gasson, Campbell, Daly, McAuley, Sills, Sam-Yorke, McNish. Subs: Brown, Holder-Spooner, Dunn, Paterson, McDonnell.
