IT HAS been a fantastic year for Basingstoke and Mid Hants athlete Kierra Barker – and the youngster maintained her excellent form by romping to victory at the English Schools Combined Events Championship.

Her success at Bedford means that the 14-year-old has won a total of five national titles over the course of 2012, while she is the top ranked under-15 girl in both the high jump and five-event pentathlon.

Barker amassed 3,500points at Bedford to win the junior girls pentathlon title by a clear 300pts. She led throughout the competition, recording the best performances in four of the five events, equalling her personal best of 1.72metres in the high jump and going close to a number of other lifetime records.

Four other Basingstoke and Mid Hants athletes joined Barker in Bedford. JJ Crookes recorded personal bests in the 80m hurdles and shot on his way to a lifetime best score of 2,487pts and 14th place in the pentathlon for junior boys.
