Jason Bristow: Defeat was harsh on Basingstoke Town

JASON Bristow was left feeling hard done by after seeing his Basingstoke Town side produce a much improved display in their defeat at Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.

The Town manager said: “We did not deserve to lose at all. We battered them in the second half and even with 10 men we had chance after chance.

“We looked good going forward, created the better chances and it just sums the game up that their goalkeeper got man of the match.

“We played well, worked hard and created opportunities. We did not take them but that is football and on another day we could have won.”

Basingstoke were forced to play the last 15 minutes with 10 men after Nathan Smart picked up a second booking - and Bristow felt the wing-back was a little unfortunate to be sent off.

“I thought that the red card was harsh,” he said. “Nathan was unlucky with both bookings but we are not getting any luck with things like that at the moment.”

The defeat means that Bristow has lost two games in a row for the first time as Basingstoke manager and leaves the club 14th in the Blue Square Bet table, 11 points behind leaders Salisbury.

Bristow said: “Defeat is hard to take because we were on the front foot for so much of the second half. It's really disappointing.

“We were much better today though so it is one of those where you go away, move on and try to turn things around.”
