Rowan Vine nets winner against Celtic

BASINGSTOKE footballer Rowan Vine made sure his first goal for Scottish Premier League outfit St Johnstone was one to remember – a winner against the mighty Celtic.

The 29-year-old striker curled home 10 minutes from the end to give his side a famous 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon. Celtic led early on through Kris Commons but hosts St Johnstone hit back through Gregory Tade and Vine supplied the dramatic finish.

The victory was the Perth side’s first of the season and the goal was Vine’s first for the club he joined at the end of July.

“To score against Celtic has got to be right up there,” he said. “It was unbelievable. “It was intimidating at home. They had two stands full of fans and for them to get an early goal made it an uphill task.

“But we stuck it out and got our rewards. It was a great team effort and we showed character to come from behind.”
