Basingstoke lose thriller to Finchampstead

BASINGSTOKE and North Hants were unable to sign off their stay in the Thames Valley League with a win as they lost a thrilling local derby at Finchampstead by three wickets.

The home side looked to be cruising to victory in the division one clash after smashing 80 off the first eight overs as they chased Basingstoke 212.

However, Dave Pistorius with four wickets and Martyn James with three taking his tally for the second season running to 50 pulled back the situation so much that the home side needed a four off the last ball to win the game, but did it in style with a six.

Earlier Basingstoke had found left hard batting until skipper and top scorer Dan Coombs (86) and Craig Williamson (41) got the run rate going to around five an over.

Unfortunately, for the visitors the pair were then out in consecutive overs and from their the Bountymen slipped away being all out for 212.
