Connor Standing on his way to a shut-out against Bracknell.
BASINGSTOKE Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard was a delighted man after he watched his Herd retain the Oliveira Trophy on Saturday night.
The Herd beat Invicta Dynamos 5-2 in the final after beating Wightlink Raiders 3-1, Bracknell Bees 2-0 and drawing 1-1 with Invicta to win the group stage.
The Bison had new signings Joe Rand, Greg Chambers, Greg Owen, Zach Sullivan, Andy Melachrino, Carl Graham and Joe Greener all in action.
Sheppard said: “This has proved to be a great workk-out and we are a week ahead of most teams, which is going to help us when we start the season.”
Teenage forward Cameron Wynn scored twice in the final on his to a well deserved man-of-the-match award.
Sheppard added: “It was great to see Cam score two goals in the final.”
With first choice netminder Stevie Lyle unavailable, Connor Standing back-stopped the side to victory in the final and also recorded a shut-out in the win over Bracknell.
Sheppard said: “Connor stepped up and did a great job for us and it certainly gives us confidence in using him if we need to during the season.”
