Basingstoke coach impressed by pre-season showing

BASINGSTOKE RFC director of rugby James Croker was very pleased with his final pre-season work-out at Salisbury ahead of the home league opener with East Grinstead on Saturday.

In total 43 players from the first and second team squads made the trip to Wiltshire for six sessions of 20 minute rugby with the first team players taking to the field for the first second and sixth sessions.

The opening session was lost by a single try, but ‘Stoke stormed back with four unanswered tries.

From there they dominated, eventually running out winners by 10 tries to three.

With some excellent performances it leaves Croker with a nice selection headache ahead of Saturday’s home game with East Grinstead.

Talking afterwards Croker said: “It has proved to be a very worthwhile trial and everyone has stood up well.”
