ASHLEY Pither continued his sparkling recent form, winning all his games to earn KG B a hard fought draw against a very determined Queens B side in the Basingstoke and District Table Tennis League division one.

A tight match that neither team deserved to lose finished just before midnight.

There is no stopping St Peters A as they chalked up another 10-0 victory, this time over KG A.

Tony Palaczky scored a comfortable treble in Queens ‘s 7-3 success over KG C and it was also good to see Tony Amies playing again after injury.

Alpha Cars recorded a good 7-3 win against a strong St. Peters B team.

The St Peters players all had different styles of play and very different surfaces on theirs bats, making it difficult to play against.

For Alpha Cars, Terry White and Paul Rattue both won hard fought maximums, with the best match of the night being the doubles when Brian Wilde and Richard Mole beat White and Rattue in five sets.

Oakley’s Sarah Whithorn took Winklebury’s Peter Bradley to five sets before losing 11-5, 9-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-9.

It was left to Chas Smith to win the lone Oakley game against Bradley in a 9-1 reverse In Division Two, Michael Jared played well for Queens E in their 6-4 victory over Portals.

Queens Z pair Callum Coombs and Dominic NG both played won trebles without dropping a single game to help their team to an 8-2 victory over Queens F.

Melvyn Lovegrove (Queens F) was taken to five by Nick Cheng before winning in the fifth 11-7.

Oakley B and KG D played out an honourable draw, as did St Peters C and Queens C.

St Peters’ Richard Faulkner and Alan Lipscombe lost to Colin Chapman and Mike Chamberlain in the fifth 11-8.

Oakley B’s Terri Allison battles very hard without any luck as his side lost 7-3 to St Peters C.

Queens H suffered a disappointing result losing 8-2 to AWE B. Mick Buley played well for Queens, while AWE’s Robin Treadwell and John McLarty both won trebles.

In the Division Three clash between Aldworth and KG E it was great to see two teams made up mainly of junior players battling it out, with Aldworth winning 7-3.

Aldworth’s Adrian Cole had an impressive two wins, to add to his season’s tally and there was also a first league win for William Phoon (Aldworth) over Sam Marchant (KG E) and a very close four set loss to John Davey (KG E).

Joe Marchant (KG E) picked up a tight four set win over William Phoon in the first match of the night and with Aldworth winning the two matches that went to five sets, the match could have easily been a draw.

BHS beat Queens J 7-3 after some closely fought games.
