RNA Sports won a thrilling Bluebird Care Diamond Jubilee Guy Jewell Plate final by just one run over Ramsdell on Sunday afternoon at May's Bounty.

In a game played in a great sporting spirit by both sides, Ramsdell so nearly won the game needing 10 off the final over, but just fell short.

Earlier in the game a superb unbeaten knock of 71 from Royal Naval opener Kevin Light looked to have sunk the Ramsdell hopes as he laid the foundation for their winning total of 142-3.

He shared a second wicket stand worth 71 runs with Dan Vallis (37) and Light finished having hit 10 fours and one six during his stay at the crease.

In reply, Ramsdell started slowly, with only opener Gary Clark (18) making it into double figures as they struggled to 60-5.

Mid order batsman James Allen (39) started the fight back and then Paul Bailey (10 not out) and Adam Mindy (11) edged the team nearer to the winning post.

Munday was snapped up by an excellent caught and bowled by James Beckwith (2-16) in the final over as the ball looked to be heading to the boundary.

Lee Liddle and Bailey battled on, but just came up short in a thrilling finish.

A delighted RNA captain Lee Jones said: “These are a great group of guys and winning the Plate is a great way to finish our season. I think James Beckwith certainly got us out of a hole in the final over, while Kevin Light continued his great form for us."
