Bountymen set sights on third

BASINGSTOKE and North Hants captain Russell Droy is looking for his side to finish their Thames Valley League division one campaign with a third win on the trot.

Having reeled off victories over Kew and Wokingham, the final hurdle is an away trip to bottom side Maidenhead and Bray.

When these sides last met, in early July, Basingstoke won by 68 runs with Droy (79) and Daniel Coombs (56) leading the way.

Both batsmen were in fine form against Wokingham last weekend, but, for the second week running, bowler Martyn James stole the headlines with a superb bowling display that yielded 8-44.

That continued his great end of season return form, which has seen him return figures of 15-88 in his last two games.

Captain Droy praised his strike bowler and said: “He is just bowling so well at the moment, moving the ball both ways, and nobody is able to play him.”

Looking forward to the final game of the season, Droy said: “I want to finish with a win so we can move up the table. Third place is not beyond us.

“I think we are better side than Cove or High Wycombe II, so it would be nice to finish above them.”

Daniel Coombs hit a century last time out at May's Bounty. Daniel Coombs will look to continue his good form this weekend.
