Hannah is going up in the world of ice skating

HANNAH Rahman a young Basingstoke skater has qualified for the British Championships later this year.

In her first IJS Novice event at Hull, she came sixth in the short programme (20.4) and fourth in the free programme (35.82).

The 11-year-old recorded a combine score of 56.22 to secured her a pass at IJS Novice level and book a place in the British Championships.

Rahman recently enjoyed meeting two of the stars Kyran Bracken and Steven Cousins of the new ice spectacular called Ice Party Champions which is coming to the Basingstoke Arena on the weekend of September 4 and 5.

This will showcase an impressive line-up of celebrity and champion ice skaters as well as local skaters.

In the British Solo Ice Dance Championships at Ice Sheffield, Curtis Hawthorne (17) was second in Novice Men, Amy Sanders (19) was tenth in the Intermediate Ladies and Christie Hughes (12) 17th in the Pre-Novice Ladies.

Basingstoke skaters enjoyed a great time at the Basingstoke Open as they picked up no less than nine gold medals.

The winning home skaters were Matthew Kershaw (level 10), Charlotte Davies (level 10) Victoria Caine (level nine) Danielle Harrison (level eight), Arron Lincoln (level four), Jessica Colenutt (solo exhibition any standard), Caitlin Marsh (solo exhibition level four and under), Katherine Black, Vicki Caine, Kimberley Gilliard and Rachael Powell (2,3,4, exhibition) and the Basingstoke Adults (show number).

Oliver Parrington-Tyler picked up a silver medal at level four and there were bronze medals Rachael Powell (level nine), Chloe Dyderski (level three 13 and over), Alison Foster (level one 13 and over) Jessica Gill (beginner eight and under) and Emily Milne and Isla Milne (2,3,4 Exhibition) At the National Team Challenge, at the Lee Valley Ice Centre, Basingstoke hoped to retain their title against five other teams, but in the end had to settle for joint second place with the home team as Bracknell won.

Winners for Basingstoke at the event were Ben Smith (level three and under), Danielle Harrison (level eight and under), Charlie Parrington-Tyler and Smith (beginner pairs), Caitlin Marsh (level eight and under solo exhibition).

Second place finishes went to Christie Hughes (Solo Original Dance – Novice), Amy Sanders (Solo Free Dance) Molly Piper-Harris and Curtis Hawthorne (level six and under dance couple) and Julia Melhuish and Adrian Johnson (dance any level veteran couple).

The Sister Act II show number was performed by Cydney Barrett, Jessica Colenutt, Rae Crawford, Esther Evans, Miriam Evans, Fiona Hammett, Curtis Hawthorne, Lydia Johnson, Caitlin Marsh, Hattie Neilsen, Molly Piper-Harris, Jessica Skipp, Ben Smith, Rebekah Sugden-Knights, Faith Weedon and Natasha Wale and they finished fourth.

At the Milton Keynes Open Charlotte Davies finished second in the level 10 ladies, while their were bronze medals for Hannah Rahman (level eight) and Rachael Rahman (level one Ladies 10 years and under).

Caitlin Marsh and Olly Parrington-Taylor passed their National Ice Skating Association (NISA) level one and two pairs tests and are now part of the NISA Development team for pairs.

At the Summer Ice Gala 50 skaters from Basingstoke took part from young beginners to competitive skaters and the adult group.

Jessica Colenutt (16) and Marsh (9) were chosen as the most entertaining acts and both will perform their routines in the Christmas 'Merry Glee' Ice Show on December 18 and 19.
