Bragging rights at stake

TODAY will see arch-rivals Hook and Newnham Basics and Hartley Wintney clash for the fourth time this season as they do battle for the Guy Jewell Cup.

So far bragging rights belong to Hook, having recorded a clean sweep of two Southern League wins and a Southern Electric Cup success over their near neighbours.

So Hartley will be keen to turn the tables on them in a game at May’s Bounty which starts at 3.30pm and to which admission is free.

Hartley, beaten finalists last season, booked their place in the final this time around by defeating holders Old Basing by 38 runs as Alex Scarrietta (60) and Scott Baldwin (45) top scored in a winning total of 157-5, while captain Jack Cockram took 4-31.

Hook also won their semi-final by 38 runs, beating Odiham and Greywell.

Ross Hunter top-scored for the winners with an unbeaten 40 in Hook’s total of 150-5, but he will be missing, along with Neil Marsh, on Sunday.

Before Hook and Hartley battle it out, there is the Guy Jewell Plate final between Overton and Chawton starting at midday.

Chawton reached the final thanks to beating RNA Sports on a faster scoring rate in the semi-final as Jacob Channon hit an excellent 73.

Overton booked their place at May’s Bounty after victory over AWE Tadley by 31 runs.

Dan Johnson (46) and Adam Wymbs (40) led the way in a winning total of 151-6.
