FRANK Gray did not enjoy a happy return to Kingfield on Saturday, his Basingstoke Town side going down to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of his former club Woking.
The visitors got off to the worst possible start, conceding a goal after just 26 seconds, when Craig Faulconbridge produced a fine effort to beat Ross Kitteridge from 35 yards.
Town had the better of the second half of the period and deservedly levelled after 33 minutes. It was another spectacular effort, Matt Warner hitting a volley that just dipped in off the underside of the crossbar.
Basingstoke continued to press and hit the post through David Pratt but it was Woking who went in for the break a goal up. Again it was a good strike, Giuseppe Sole curling a free-kick into the corner.
Town got back on terms four minutes into the second half, Jahson Downes firing home after playing a neat one-two with Jide Ogunbote.
However, the home side took charge after this, Moses Ademola hitting the post before they re-took the lead just after the hour.
A fine pass from Sole found substitute Nathaniel Pinney in behind the defence and he produced a neat finish to beat Kitteridge.
Woking made sure of victory 11 minutes from time, Sole converting from the spot after Lewis Christon was adjudged to have brought Ademola down in the area.
