Lightning strikes Bison

THE BASINGSTOKE Bison were unable to stop leaders Milton Keynes Lightning moving one step closer to taking the league crown on Sunday night.

The Herd ended up on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline this after taking the lead just eight seconds into the second period from Ollie Bronnimann.

The Lightning levelled on a shorthanded play thanks to Michael Wales after a nice set-up from Adam Carr.

An altercation at 35:40 saw the Herd’s Jamie Line smashed into the boards head first by Matt Towalski. It was no surprise that a Bison player came flying in to dish out some punishment and that led to Grant McPherson all getting involved sticking up for Towalski.

When the dust had settled both Wiggins and McPherson were dismissed, but once again referee Joy Tottman endeared herself to the Basingstoke fans, by giving Wiggins an extra match penalty on top of his 5 + game.

The Lightning scored just 31 seconds into the final period on the above powerplay as Andre Smulter slotted home Leigh Jamieson’s cross.

The leaders then added a third seven minutes later as Nick Poole fed Carr.
