UNLUCKY 13 it proved to be for the Basingstoke Bison as they lost to the visiting Slough Jets 4-2, but it was not without controversy.
The final visitors goal scored by Adam Greener looked to most in the building, me included to have come straight off the post and out with eight minutes remaining.
However, the goal judge put his light on for the goal and that was enough for referee Blaine Evans to award it, even if he had not been up with the play.
That proved to be the final nail in the Bison coffin as their home winning streak ended on 12 consecutive wins on Saturday night.
It had started brightly enough for the home side as man-of-the-match Tom Long re-directed a Chris Wiggins’ shot past Gregg Rockman.
The home side then ran into penalty trouble as Nicky Chinn was quickly joined in the sin bin by Steve Moria.
The Jets scored on both powerplays as Slava Koulikov and Slough man-of-the-match Peter Poljacek scored.
The only goal of the middle session came from Joe Greener as the Jets were better team for the first two periods.
The final period saw Blaz Emersic hit the crossbar and then Bison’s Ollie Bronnimann did likewise, before the Herd tied the game at 49:17 from Ondrej Lauko with his 50th league goal of the season.
At that point they looked like they would tie the game, but instead Adam Greener dealt a killer blow with eight minutes remaining.
