BASINGSTOKE Bluefins started 2010 on a high by winning the top club award at an open meeting held in Maidenhead.

A total of 16 clubs and more than 300 swimmers took to the water during the two-day competition and the Bluefins did not look back after taking the lead in the top club standings towards the end of the first day, amassing 803 points to win the title.

There were also individual successes, with Sally Chui claiming the title for the top girl, while Ollie Waldram was second in the top boy competition.

Graeme Thomas, head coach of the Bluefins, said: “There were a lot of terrific swims and all the swimmers gained something from the weekend, whether it was a new personal best, a county or regional qualifying time or the experience of a first level two meet swim. They are a dedicated team of swimmers and to win the cup for top overall club shows just how dedicated they are to be the best.”

Further success followed at the Gemini Trophy Gala, which took place at the club’s home pool, the Basingstoke Aquadrome.

The Bluefins again came out on top, scoring 413 points, 11 clear of Alton in second place.
