Berridge times it right to excel at first indoor 800m

BASINGSTOKE and Mid Hants athlete Mark Berridge produced a fine display in the 800m at the London Indoor Games.

Running in his first indoor 800m after stepping up from 400m, Berridge led his heat from start to finish to win in a time of 1min 50.12sec.

The performance put him third in the UK rankings.

He plans to run the 800m at the UK Championships later this month.

Also in action in the 800m at Lee Valley were Dave Regan and Nick Bates, who |finished sixth and second in their respective heats.

Multi-eventer Ben Hazell was in Holland representing Great Britain in an indoor international and finished 15th in the |heptathlon with 5,260 points.

Younger members of the Down Grange club travelled to Parliament Hill Fields for the South of England Cross Country Championships.

Performance of the day came from Toby Smith, who finished seventh in the under-15 boys’ race, while Ollie Butler was ninth in the under-13 boys’ event.

Both the men and ladies’ teams recorded fine results in a Today’s Runner League event at Rogate.

The ladies won overall, with Tracey Cornell finishing fourth and Becky Crisp fifth, while the men were second, with Dan Doherty came home fifth.

Basingstoke won overall and lie second in the table with two races remaining.
