Saints and Royals discover cup opponents

READING and Southampton will both be hoping to make progress in next season's Carling Cup after being drawn against lower-league opposition.

The Royals, who are back in the first round following their relegation from the Premier League, will travel to east London for a tie with Dagenham and Redbridge.

Southampton face a fellow south coast club when they make the trip to play Exeter City, who were promoted back into the Football League last month.

Among the other first round matches that catch the eye is Aldershot Town's trip to Championship side Coventry.
