JUDO Club Osaka’s Shelley Ludford will be in action at the 2018 Junior European Judo Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria which start today and go until Sunday.

The event is for the top under-21 judo fighter from right across the whole of Europe.

This will be Ludford from Brighton Hill’s third appearance at a Junior Europeans.

However, this is her first at her new weight category of under 78kg.

She is part of a nine-strong team selected by British Judo for the championships.

Ludford moved up from under 70kg to under78kg at the end of last year and she has won a number of medals at the higher weight.

The Brighton Hill fighter is the 2017 Senior and Junior British champion.

She has also had success on the international stage winning a gold medal at the Kaunas Junior European Cup.

Ludford also took silver at the prestigious International Thuringia Cup and followed this up with a bronze at the Coimbra Junior European Cup.

Her performances have seen her move into the top 20 at her weight in the International Judo Federation Junior World rankings.

Ludford will fight on the third day of competition on Saturday.
