BASINGSTOKE and North Hants dented Hampshire Academy’s Southern League Premier Division title hopes, as they beat the visitors by 151 runs.

The home side put into bat made a good start, as Ben Thane and Chris Jolley put on 44 for the first wicket.

Jolley (29) was the first man out, but Thane and Max Harsham (19) moved the score along to 74, before Harsham was caught and bowled by Sonny Reynolds.

Sibonelo Makhanya followed soon after, which brought Mitch Stokes (35) to centre and along with the Thane the pair added 77 to take the score to 161-4.

Thane was the fourth man out for 82 from 113 balls which included 13 fours.

The next best score of the innings came from Brad Neal coming in at number seven.

He added a quick fire 36 from 26 balls, which included two sixes and two fours as Basingstoke reached 231-7 from 45 overs.

The Academy reply suffered the early loss of Joshua Wood with just nine runs scored.

Felix Organ (14) and Tom Scriven (29) got the scoreboard moving, until they were parted by Martyn James.

He also picked up the wicket of Basingstoke’s Academy player George Metzger, with a smart caught and bowled on his way to 3-36.

Scriven was the fifth man out with the score on 69 and from there the visitors only added 11 more runs being all out for 80.

This was thanks to a brilliant 6.3 overs spell from Makhanya as he returned figures of 5-11.
