BASINGSTOKE racers Paul and Dean Tompkins competed in rounds eight and nine of the pickup Truck Racing Championship around Thruxton, writes DAVID HOLLAND.

For the two races comprising of 12 laps Paul qualified eighth for the first and sixth for the second, while Dean qualified 15th in race one and 13th in race two .

Race one, Paul made a place off the line but by lap three had slipped back to eighth place and was now on a push. Meanwhile, Dean had also had a good start and made up two places off the start to 13th.

Lap four saw Paul running seventh and by lap four had made a pass on a struggling Peter Stevens to claim sixth.

Lap six saw Dean running in 12th place where he remained until lap nine when Stevens retired moving him up to 11th.

The previous lap, lap eight Paul made a pass on David O’Regan to claim fifth.

Paul made a pass on Michael Smith during lap ten to move fourth place. Paul remained in fourth just missing out on a podium at the chequered flag while Dean came home in 11th.

As the lights went green for race two Paul made a flying start and was soon up into second place, while Dean maintained his start position.

During lap two with the hustle and bustle around the circuit Paul was pushed back to sixth place, but lap three saw him pass Dale Gent to claim fifth.

Lap four saw Dean caught and passed Mark Cooper and by lap six he was 11th.

Lap nine Dale Gent re-passed Paul pushing him back to sixth place and on lap 11, Michael Smith caught as he pushed back to seventh at the chequered flag with Dean taking the flag in 11th

The pair will be in action this weekend in rounds 10 and 11 at Donington Park.
