FIDEL Edwards is in contention to play against Middlesex on Friday night after returning from the inaugural Canadian T20 League.
The Hampshire fast bowler was one of the leading wicket- takers at the Global T20 Canada, where he was playing for the Winnipeg Hawks.
Only fellow West Indian Sheldon Cottrell (14) and Australian leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed (13) took more than his 11 wickets at 14.27 apiece.
Lasith Malinga (11), Peter Siddle (10), Andre Russell (10) and Tim Southee (10) were also in the wickets.
But of the top 15 bowlers, only Sri Lanka legend Malinga finished the tournament with a better economy rate than Fidel’s 6.87 runs per over.
Making his GT20 Canada debut in Winnipeg’s first game, Fidel began by dismissing Australia’s disgraced Test captain Steven Smith in returning figures of 4-1-8-2 against the Toronto Nationals.
His best performance was a haul of 4-19 from 3.5 overs against the Edmonton Royals, his first four-wicket T20 return for five years.
But Winnipeg missed out on a place in the final after losing to Chris Gayle’s Vancouver Knights, the eventual winners, last Saturday.
Been a pleasure being in Canada taking part in the first gt20canada and representing such a wonderful team #winnipeghawks ... thanks for having me and to all the spectators thank you 🙏🏿 👊🏾👊🏾 https://t.co/VzfMveZDlA
