BASINGSTOKE and North Hants seconds won a one wicket thriller at Langley Manor in the Southern League Division Two.

Matt Deadman was their hero with a superb 106, as they got home with 3.2 overs left to play.

It was the home side who elected to bat first after winning the toss and thanks to opener Conor Browne (63) and good supporting roles from Steve Harris (48), Jack Budd (39) and Elliot Ponting (38) they made 240-9.

Greg Donaldson (3-31) and Chris Jolley (3-53) were the leading Basingstoke wicket takers.

In reply, the Bountymen lost both Richard Vinn and Scott Dyer early, before Jolley (46) and Deadman added 128 for the third wicket.

Callum Coombs (23) then replaced Jolley at the centre and the score moved to 180-4.

With Deadman in full flow the runs kept coming, but so did the wickets, When Basingstoke’s century maker was finally dismissed they still needed nine to win with two wickets left.

This then became seven with one wicket remaining, but Nitin Mathew and Keith Harris saw them home.

This coming weekend, they face a visit from St Cross II.
