A BUMPER crowd turned out in glorious weather last Friday as Odiham and Greywell took on Lashings in a special game at their King Street ground.

Local companies and club members enjoyed a three course lunch in the Allstarts Marquee, with a bumper attendance of 290 people.

Famous faces mingled around with the lights of Gordon Greenidge, Devon Malcolm and Monty Panesar. They were also given the added extra of match day commentary from the Test Match Special legend that is Henry Blofeld.

With over 700 spectators arriving to bask in the glorious sunshine, Odiham lost the toss and Ex Surrey bowler, Martin Bicknell, who was skippering the Lashings XI decided to have a bat.

Wasim Jaffer and Usman Afzaal opened proceedings and got off to a tough start against Odiham’s quick, Scott McGaughrin who made the professionals work hard.

McGaughrin made the early breakthrough with Kyran Munt taking his first of two spectacular catches in the deep.

Afzaal departed for 22 and Jaffer 19 and it was left to Yassir Arafat to wow the crowd with a quick fire 80 before Becky Hartnett (1-32) got the better of him.

More balls began to fly but the home bowlers did well to limit the legends to only 169 from their allotted 20 overs, as Bicknell added to the total with an unbeaten 29.

Odiham batting was at a more steadied pace, but regular wickets were lost with Liam Schooling (17) and 15-year-old Jontie Sebborn going for two early doors.

This paved the way for Odiham star man, Kyran Munt as he dispatched the likes of Monty Panasar and Martin Bicknell into the entertained crowd in his fine innings of 38.

Addy Green and skipper Phil Thomas both chipped in with 15 and later Dan Walker with 22 but Odiham just fell short by 25 runs.

Former Basingstoke and North Hants Charl Willoughby was among the wicket takers.

Munt was awarded the man of the match award for his vital knock and two superb catches.

After the game, Odiham captain Phil Thomas said: "Today has been one of the most exciting and memorable moments in this clubs history, not often do we get to showcase such a great club."

He added: "It has been a great day for the local community and our young members who have been gifted the chance to witness some of the games true legends."
