HARTLEY Wintney will be hoping to get it right on the Isle of Wight this Saturday.

The village side are expected to welcome back Ben Earney and Scott Baldwin, as well as skipper Rhys Batcup for the trip across the water.

After their latest loss at home to high flying Calmore Sports, vice captain Will Kerr said: "This is the last game of the first half of the season and we still feel as a group there is a lot of cricket and we can get the wins we need to move up the table. Let's hope this starts at Ventnor."

Hartley knew it was not going to be their day last Saturday, when their overseas star Earney was hit in the face during the game’s warm-up.

This ruled him out of the game and left an already depleted Hartley needing to call-up another player from their second XI.

Kerr won the toss and decided to bat against Calmore.

Unfortunately, he was quickly back in the pavilion having failed to score and worse was to follow, as Jonny Rowland returned with just 11 scored.

From here the home side dug in as Danny Plume (45) and Matt Kerr (22) put on a half century for the third wicket.

With the departure of Kerr, Jamie Teale (25) joined Plume and the two former Hartley skippers took the score into three figures.

It looked like the home side were on their way to a big score on the village green, but Teale was then run out by Ben Johns.

Without a run being added, Plume also perished and from there the home side lost their way being bowled out for 134, on a track where 270 would have been a par score.

Mark Lavelle (5-4) was the main man with the ball for Calmore.

Hartley knew they needed wickets early on, but openers Michael Cook (42) and Lavelle (13) were not budging.

Dan Reynaldo finally got the breakthrough thanks to a catch from Teale, to dismiss Lavelle with the score on 62.

With only one run added Daniel Bowles trapped Cook leg before.

However, the visitors heard the alarm bells and Johns (18) and Ben Perry (10) steered them to three figures.

Both were removed, as Will Kerr snapped up a couple of catches from behind the stumps, off the bowling of Ben Hyde (3-24), but by then the score was 109-4.

Hyde struck again having Michael Donovan trapped leg before, but from there Matt Taylor and Darren Vann steered them home.
