HOOK and Newnham Basics lost out by three wickets in a low scoring Southern League Division One game at Calmore Sports.

Having decided to bat, Hook soon found themselves in trouble at 12-3, as both Richard Willcock and Matt Love failed to score.

Harry Warner (26) and Matt Buckingham (9) put on 23 for the next wicket and then top scorer Jordan Hobday (32) from 33 balls moved things to 74-5, before he was out, Warner and Rhodes Franklin (19) got the score to 99, before Franklin was dismissed.

Number 10 Shane Brewer was the only other player to make it into double figures with 14, as Hook were all out for 126 in 44 overs.

The home side’s reply was soon on the rocks as Brewer and Ben Peart struck leaving them 19-2.

Calmore’s Ben Johns (36) and James Manning (26) then put on 42 for the third wicket.

Hook then got amongst the wickets, again thanks to Willcock and Franklin (3-29) and suddenly Calmore were 73-5.

However, they recovered to get over the line with seven wickets down, thanks to Ben Perry (16) and Mike West (11 not out) and Liam Newton (7 not out).

Today, Hook are in T20 Cup action at home to Division One rivals OTs and Romsey.
