BASINGSTOKE and North Hants seconds were knocked off the top of the Southern League Division Two, after they lost to visiting Totton and Eling, by 46 runs.

Home skipper Chris Chandler put the visitors into bat and openers Sam Bracey (35) and Jimmy Taylor (43) set about building a big score.

By the time both openers were out 87 was on the board.

Ethan Taylor (63) and Gary Chirimuuta (74) then really turned the screw, adding 138 for the third wicket as in the end Totton posted a score of 241-6. Matt Thankachan took three wickets and Rakitha Perera two.

The Bountymen reply saw opener Chris Froud make 27, but they lost Scott Dyer, Josh May and Joe Oates all cheaply leaving them on 56-4.

Matt Deadman (29) and Richard Vinn (35) moved the score into three figures and then Vinn and Chris Jolley (26) which included the only sixes of the innings put on 59 for the sixth wicket.

With both out and the score on 161, the writing was on the wall for the home side, who were all out in the end for 195.

The seconds will hope to bounce back to winning ways, when they travel to Trojans on Saturday.
