HOOK and Newnham Basics’ unbeaten start to their Southern League Division One campaign, came to end when they lost at Sarisbury by five wickets.
Once again it was a high scoring game as Hook got off to a great start thanks to Richard Willcock (69) and Josh Buckingham (32) who put on 60 for the first wicket.
Harry Warner then took over with an excellent 82, which came from 105 balls and saw him five fours and clear the boundary rope three times.
Further useful contributions from Matt Buckingham (28) and an unbeaten 30 from Jordan Hobday saw Hook post a total of 276-6.
However, this proved not to be enough as Sarisbury’s Thomas Nightingale was really on song, hitting an unbeaten 140 from 134 balls, which included 17 fours and three sixes.
He shared an unbroken century partnership with Jamie Dunn (25) as the home side reached their total with 13 balls to spare.
Shane Brewer (3-41) finished the top Hook wicket taker as at one-point Sarisbury were 68-3.
Next up for Hook is a trip to last season’s champions Calmore Sports on Saturday and then on Sunday they are in T20 Cup action at home to OTs and Romsey.
