BRAGGING rights for North Hampshire went to Hook and Newnham Basics after they took a three-wicket win over Hartley Winteny.

The visiting newly promoted Hartley started off strong with opening pairing of William Kerr and Johnathan Rowland racking up 88 runs between the, (59 and 29 respectively).

However, when the duo were dismissed, firstly Rowland bowled by Aniket Divecha (1-36) and then after Daniel Plume’s brief spell at the crease Kerr was bowled out by Richard Willcock (2-32), the wickets began to tumble.

Matthew Kerr and Scott Baldwin could only manage five runs and three runs respectively before Dan Wrenn produced a strong showing hitting 50 not out.

Willcock claimed another wicket for the hosts with Rhodes Franklin (2-40) also took two wickets, but the visitors managed to hold out for the full 50 overs with a score of 230 for 8.

When it came time for the host to bat, it was that man Willcock again who proved to be a thorn in the side of Hartley, racking up 37 runs and producing an opening partnership of 70 runs with Josh Buckingham.

Dan Reynaldo (3-60) provided so resistance against the hosts march towards the 231 total, dismissing Buckingham, Ross Hunter for 12 runs and Matthew Buckingham who had added to hosts total of 211-5 with 40 runs.

However, this would be the last wicket which Hartley would take as Hook and Newnham Basics captain Matt Love produced and impressive 70 not out.

It was Love, who with his closing partnership with Franklin (10 not out), scored the winning rungs which saw the hosts claim a 231 for 5 victory over their local rivals.

The win leaves Hook in second place in the Southern Premier Cricket League Division One level on points with Ventor setting up a top of the table clash this weekend, whereas Hartley are still searching for their first win of the campaign and sit second bottom and have a tough task against Bournemouth this Saturday.
