THE Basingstoke Bison go into this final weekend of the league season, looking to win the title for only the third time in the club’s history.

The Herd are second in the South One, two points behind leaders the Peterborough Phantoms with a game in hand.

With the league series between the top two tied, the title will be decided this weekend on goal difference, with Peterborough currently holding a six goal advantage.

The Phantoms have just one game left on Saturday at home to Streatham, while the Bison have two games remaining against Invicta on Saturday (6.30pm) and then a trip to Cardiff on Sunday (6pm).

When the Bison last played Invicta they won 8-4 and last time against Cardiff it was a 9-0 success, while when the Phantoms last met Streatham they enjoyed a 2-0 victory. The same results this weekend, would see the Bison crowned champions.

The Herd will welcome back import sharp shooter Roman Malinik after he missed last weekend, but British forward Grant Rounding is still out.

However, before the Herd can focus on winning the league, they have the little matter of their home leg of the Autumn Cup final against the Swindon Wildcats on Friday night (7.45pm).

Looking ahead to another big weekend Bison head coach Doug Sheppard said: “We start on Friday with a game which is going to be a close affair, then we have six periods to try and win the league. We will know what we will need to do when we go to Cardiff which is good and it is matter of not putting too much pressure on the players. We have to continue to play as a team and I sure the goals will come.”
