ST CROSS Symondians all-rounder Harry Came interrupted his demanding winter training schedule at Gary Kirsten’s Cricket Academy in Cape Town to collect last summer’s Southern Premier League Young Cricketer award.
The 18-year old, from Old Basing, is spending the winter in the Cape, South Africa fine tuning his skills after a successful debut season in local Premier Division cricket.
He won the long standing John Millett Memorial Award after scoring 579 runs and taking 21 wickets for St Cross for whom he will play again this coming season.
Came’s run haul included two centuries against South Wilts - the second a blistering six-strewn affair at the Green Jackets Ground on the final day of the season - and fifty-plus scores against Lymington and New Milton.
Came is thoroughly enjoying his winter in Cape Town, where he is making steady progress in Claremont cricket club’s first team in the powerful Western Province League.
“I’m regularly putting 30-plus scores on the board, but need to move up a notch for a few big one’s,” he said.
“Training is intense, typically South African, but hopefully it will bring its short and long term rewards.
