THE Basingstoke Bison slipped to second spot in South One on goal difference, after a 3-2 victory at local rivals the Bracknell Bees.

It was the home side who opened the scoring in the game from Carl Thompson at 10:39.

This was thanks to a two man advantage after Joe Baird joined Kurt Reynolds in the sin bin. The Thompson goal cancelled out the first penalty, but still left Baird in penalty box.

The defenceman was still sitting in the sin bin, as the Herd equalised shorthanded from Roman Malinik.

Just 90 seconds into the second session, man of the match Grant Rounding gave the Bison the lead.

Then Malinik's second goal of the game at 32:08 made it 3-1.

The visitors were then awarded a penalty shot, which was taken by former Bee Josh Smith, but saved by Alex Mettam.

With just over two minutes left in the contest, Mettam was pulled by the Bees for the extra skater.

This saw the home side grab their second of the night at 58:11 from Callum Best.

However, despite pulling their goalie again, Bracknell were unable to score an equaliser as the Herd held on to win.

The Bison are next in action on Saturday January 20, when Swindon visit Basingstoke.
