BASINGSTOKE Town’s miserable away run continued, as they went down 1-0 at Frome Town in the Southern League Premier Division.

This completed a league double for the Somerset side over their Hampshire rivals, as they are the only team to have won at the Camrose this season.

Basingstoke boss Terry Brown made four changes to his side with new on loan signing from Scunthorpe United, defender Leslie Sackey coming into the starting line-up, along with Tim Wohlfiel, Callum Bunting and Jack McKnight.

This meant Sam Smart, George Bennett, Ashleigh Artwell and skipper Marcus Johnson-Schuster all dropped to the bench, so midfielder Charlie Kennedy took over as captain.

The home side had the wind advantage from Storm Brian in the first 45 minutes, and with their first attack they took the lead.

Having scored their opener at the Camrose in eight minutes, this time it was even quicker on home soil as in six minutes, they found the back of the net.

Mitchell Page on the turn fired home after Ollie Knight and Jon Davies combined in the build-up play.

The Dragons tried to roar back as striker Sam Argent forced a great save out of Kyle Phillips and then Ben Wright did the same.

Next into action, was visiting goalkeeper Colm McAdden to deny Jake Jackson.

The home striker then came even closer to scoring on 39 minutes, but McAdden produced a great reflect save to stop the lead being doubled.

Argent then went close for the Dragons, before Frome’s Jon Davies hammered a shot off the post, after being found by Page in the final minute of the half.

After the break, the visitors had a couple of chances from Jack McKnight and Argent.

Frome hit back as Marcus Mapstone fired over and then Page did the same with his header, from Ollie Knight’s cross.

Basingstoke then made a double switch with Wright and Bunting being replaced by Smart and Artwell.

Lively winger Smart was soon in the action, as his cross was headed over by Charlie Kennedy.

Smart himself then tested home goalie Phillips, who was forced to save with his feet.

The visitors continued to have the upper hand in the closing stages, but were unable to find the equalising goal.

The latest away loss at Frome, means Basingstoke slip to 16th in the table.

However, on Tuesday night, they will be looking to maintain their excellent home form, when Dorchester Town are the visitors.
